Daniel @ two.

How the time has flown! In some ways it feels like it was no time at all that I was sitting down to write the page on Daniel’s birth (click here to see it) but in another way it seems like it is a lifetime ago, well it is Daniel’s lifetime ago I guess! The tiny little baby we brought home is now a 2 and a bit year old toddler who runs everywhere, “There’s way too much to do to just walk around Dad!”, chatters away to us and is affectionately referred to as “Mr. Independent” because he wants to do everything for himself.

Some of Daniel’s current favorites are:

·      The Thomas Train Set

·      Building Blocks

·      Drawing

·      Swimming Lessons with Mum

·      Mini Maestros

·      The Wiggles

·      Riding with Dad on
“Big Bike”

·      Riding his treadle bike

·      Riding his trike

·      Horsy rides on Dad

·      The 10 Little Ladybugs Book

·      Reading “There’s a House Inside My Mummy” with Mum.

At the risk of tempting the god of sleeping babies, I’m happy to report that most nights we sleep right through from bedtime to 06:30 / 07:00 O’clock now!   Daylight saving has meant we’re a little later getting him into to bed most evenings and the routine of looking at the stars and moon has given way to a look around the garden.

Daniel has taken to swimming exactly the way neither Mum nor Dad did, that is he LOVES it. We have a great instructor and their teaching method seems to really click with the children.

One (of many) traits he has inherited from both of us is his love of music.   Saturday morning is music time at Mini Maestros. Often we are greeted with the words ”music, MUSIC!” when we wake him on a Saturday.

We’re slowly introducing Daniel to the idea that a little brother is on the way.

There’s a House Inside My Mummy was recommended to us, it is a book for toddlers to explain the upcoming arrival of a sibling. Its very good.

Daniel has started to do things like giving baby a hug, e.g. hugging Tania’s tummy and pointing to the picture of the pregnant mother in the book and Tania and saying “samey samey” i.e. the same. Between babies he knows from crèche and a couple of new arrivals in the mothers’ group he has had a bit of exposure to babies and seems to understand.

Every day brings new achievements and adventures. A new word, a new activity, a new game or something new to laugh and play with. He is our joy.
